How to Prevent Your Eyeliner to Flow

Eyeliner is one of those classic things. Also it is a very simple, yet edgy look. It can go both with really girly and flowy dresses and then it can go as well with biker jackets and ripped jeans. And that is all just an easy way to have an easy and beautiful look all of the time.
Yes, eyeliner is a tricky thing to apply, especially if you are a beginner. But then there are quite a few tutorials and ways to learn how to do it. You have to perfect your technique and then you will have it all figured out.

You have to find your right product. Some people prefer liquid eyeliner that is applied with an angled brush. Others prefer the eyeliner that kind of looks like a pen. For me the first type is more precise but it is all up to you and what you, your eye and your hand prefer.

The worst thing about eyeliner is though not the part when you have to apply it rather than the part where you put it on and at some point it flow or it smudges all over. Imagine being in the sexiest dress ever at some party, dancing and flipping your hair and then you go to the bathroom and see yourself in the mirror – horror! Eyeliner all over your eyes looking way too messy and at that point there is no way of fixing it. Yes, it have happened to all women that have ever worn eyeliner. It doesn’t matter where you are and how, but it happens. And it is not a pretty look, unless you are going for a grudgy emo look, which I hope you are not!

The good thing about the eyeliner flow situation is that you can do a few things to prevent it. People tend to do one or two of them whereas they can be doing the whole package and assuring their pretty face that there will be no eyeliner flow.

Here is how:

Buy the eyeliner from a famous brand
I know this sounds awful and stupid. But don’t think that this is about bragging. Do you know why some brands are famous and others not so much? Mostly because of quality (and then good PR and marketing, but that is whole other deal). Something wouldn’t be popular all over the world and bought in millions, if it is total crap. So the same applies to eyeliner. People buy suggested famous brands, because they have more quality to them then the drugstore ones. Once you go to a store and test out a few and choose one you will notice all the difference. The famous brand eyeliner will last longer. The color will be reacher and the smudges will be close to none. If you are not sure about the brand make your research online.
Apply concealer and primer beforehand
Just like we apply base before foundation and we apply base nail polish before the color, we should do the same with the eyes. A primer will help, but the primer should be put on the lid – there you usually don’t get as much trace of a flow but to be safe – apply primer there.
Then you need some concealer. I guess you are wondering why? Well, usually the flow marks and traces are on the lower lid. It is as if someone punched you in the face. And that is not a pretty picture. Before applying that eyeliner I would advise you to apply concealer under the eye in order not to look like someone who had a fight.
Fixation
You know how you do your hair and you fixate it with some hairspray? It is the same here! You know how if a make up artist does your make up they use a setting spray at the end or how you use powder over your foundation to set it in place? Yep you need to apply product over the eyeliner, to have it all beautifully done! Use a clean brush and go with the same color as the eyeliner over the line you made with some shadow. This will set it in one place without flowing!
Prepare right
Everything about fixating and applying is good. But there is something you can do before all of the above steps. And it is about the right preparation of the lid. No matter what you do beforehand and how much care you take of your face, there will be always excess tears. Do grab a cotton ear swab and run with it over the area where the eyeliner will be. This is called the flash technique and after you do it you are all ready to apply that eyeliner and enjoy being pretty with it for as long as you wish for!
